Color Snake

A selfmade LED game: a snake of colored lights crawls down a LED strip, and you shoot it apart with three buttons.

This is a short demo of my LED Game “Color Snake”. I built it using an esp32c3, some buttons and a ws2812 led strip. Also uses 3 leds inside the buttons.

The game starts in idle mode displaying random animations. When any button is pressed, the game starts, the led strip clears and from the most distant end a color snake starts moving towards the player. It consists of multiple segments of one of 3 colors (red, yellow, blue). The player can press a button to shoot a bullet in it’s color. Goal is to destroy all segments by shooting them with their color. If a wrong color (different to the front segment of the snake) is shot, it sticks to the front of the snake.

Starting in level 3 there will also be green, orange and purple in the snake. These can be shot with their mix colors (green = blue+yellow …). If a green gets hit by a blue it turns yellow. You can also shoot greens by pressing two buttons at the same time.

There’s also white segments. These are “randomizers”. The randomizer can be shot by any color, if white gets shot by blue, it turns into orange and so on. As long as a segment is white, it rotates all following segments til the end of the snake. Rotating means they change color every 0.5s cycling through 3 colors. So it’s nearly impossible to predict what follows a white segment, increasing difficulty.

There’s also boss-levels in which all buttons must be spammed as fast as possible.

This is in ongoing development and I already made some changes. A detailled hardware overview may follow.

Geistreich or Geistlos?

In my novel Der Kurator, art is either geistreich, made with human spirit, or geistlos: generated, spiritless. Where exactly the line is, nobody in the book agrees.

For my own stuff I can answer it, case by case. So every project on this site shows how much of it I credit to AI:

There is no 10/10 on this site so far. A 10 would mean I wasn't involved at all in making it. That hasn't happened yet. What a 10/10 project could be one day, and whether it would still be mine, is a question I find pretty interesting.

The number is my own judgement. You're welcome to disagree.
